Project BackgroundIn 2009, we began sending quilts directly to front line hospitals for wounded troops. The wounded were transported from combat areas on converted cargo planes with minimal heat. The handmade quilts provided warmth and comfort, show them we care, and thank them for their service. We sent over 900 quilts to Iraq and Afghanistan, and give thanks DHL Express for shipping our quilts during that timeframe to the war zone free of charge.

Examples of Quilts Made and Donated
May 2022: Happy Belated Birthday to World War II Veteran Bob Sawyer, who turned 102 on Mother's Day! Arlene Zobrist, our Wounded Warriors project coordinator, presented Bob with this quilt and pillow case, made by Jane Pavlina and Helen Carson, respectively. From Arlene: "It was so rewarding to see how much this quilt meant to this 102 year old WWII Vet. He was a bombardier on the B-25 bomber (got the bombs on target), said he wasn't a pilot but flew with them and knew how to land the plane if they lost the pilot. He was so sharp to think of all the questions that went into making a quilt and examined all the fabrics, covering himself with it - really made my day ." It makes our day, too! The guild is so honored to recognize those who have served.
