OFFICERS' DUTIES
This is a brief overview of responsibilities. If you are interested, contact the current office holder for more information. Please also see the Bylaws and Standing Rules on the Legal Stuff page for further descriptions.
Elected Officers
President
Bylaws require that those running for president must have served at least one term on the board in an elected or appointed position. Runs the Board and General Meetings.
Vice President, Programs
Contacts teachers and books lectures and workshops. Also makes arrangements for guild members to house and, when needed, to transport our speakers. Same prior board experience requirement as President.
Recording Secretary
Records and publishes minutes of the board and guild meetings.
Treasurer
Manages all guild funds. Pays bills as required; maintains records; submits tax returns annually. A bookkeeping/accounting background is helpful, but not necessary.
Newsletter Editor
Gathers information and publishes our monthly newsletter. Responsible for printing and mailing as well. Again, a great job for co-chairs. An automated task that requires access to a computer and experience with Microsoft Word.
SCCQG Rep
SBQG is a member of the Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds. This person serves as our representative to the council and attends quarterly meetings held in various locations throughout Southern California.
Membership Chair
Maintains membership records, processes applications and collects dues, publishes a directory of members, hosts the annual new members' tea. This is a great job for a team of two to co-chair. This is an automated task. Candidates require computer access and experience with Microsoft Excel.
Fashion Show Chair
Chairs the Fashion Show Committee, which organizes our annual Fashion show.
Quilt Show Chair
Chairs the Quilt Show Committee, which organizes our annual quilt show. A good job for a team. Prior service on the Quilt Show Committee is required.
Quilt Show Treasurer
Manages the quilt show bank account. Pays quilt show bills; collects quilt show income; maintains records; submits monthly and final reports to the guild. A bookkeeping/accounting background is helpful, but not necessary.

Oversees the guild's community service and philanthropic activities. Over the years we have done a variety of things from making and donating quilts to teaching quilting to children. You can make as much of it as you wish. Another great job for a team.
Hospitality
Coordinates annual catered dinner in December and pot luck dinner in June.
Facilities
Responsible for initiating contracts with St Andrews Presbyterian Church and Sam Levy Adult School for meeting space. Coordinates with Treasurer to ensure timely payment of rental fees. Provides fetch and carry service from storage unit to guild meeting for photo stands, projectors, etc., as needed. Again, a good team job.
Intra-Guild Relations
Oversees and coordinates any activities within the guild such as round robin, block exchanges, fat quarter drawings, logo orders and whatever else you can think of. Another good team job.
Parliamentarian
Chairs the Nominating Committee, oversees the Guild elections and assures that all meetings are run according to the Guild By-Laws, Standing Rules and Robert's Rules of Order (as required).
Travel Chair
Plans and arranges trips to several local quilt shows each year. Orders the motor coach, signs up passengers, plans the route and visits to quilt shops along the way, shops for snacks and door prizes. Attends board meetings and provides an accounting of expenses to the board. Best of all, goes on the trip and has lots of fun along with everyone else. Usually a two person co-chairmanship.

Auxilliary Positions
Corresponding Secretary
Sends out condolence and get well cards as appropriate to guild members.
Historian
Maintains the guild history for inclusion in the history book.
Internal Auditor
Audits the previous year's guild and quilt show treasurers' books. Also inventories the guild property in the storage unit.
Photographer
Photographs events for inclusion in the history book.
Publicity and Public Relations
Brings show flyers and information to the guild meeting. Provides publicity information to local media as required.
Website Coordinator
Maintains the guild's website, using information provided by other officers. Requires computer experience and some knowledge of web development, although this can be learned on the job.
