See our own Carol Berg with her Road To California quilt, 'In Honor of Eleanor's 40th' in Accuquilt's video- AccuQuilt Limited Series: Road to California, Part 1 - YouTube. Carol is at about the 17:00 mark, in cases you don't have time to watch the whole thing.
“It’s a Mad, Mad, Mid-Mod World” which won the People’s Choice Award at QuiltCon Together 2021 will hang in a special display of award winners from the virtual show during the in-person QuiltCon 2022 in Phoenix, AZ February 17th-20th.
Made by members of the South Bay Quilters Guild and submitted to the Modern Quilt Guild for QuiltCon Together 2021, a virtual show. We were excited to learn that it won the People’s Choice Award. Comments from two MQG board members during the announcement of the award: Heather: “I feel that it is super fitting that a quilt about houses, when we’re all attending QuiltCon from our houses gets the People’s Choice Award this year.” Karen: “I agree. I think maybe the message of this quilt just spoke to all of us this year.”
There was a lot of interest on social media about the quilt with requests for the pattern. Because the quilt is made using a mix of commercial patterns and applique designs created by a member of SBQG, we created a “design packet” that describes the process used in making the quilt and its story. The PDF design packet is available for purchase on etsy.com at Twisted Threads (https://www.etsy.com/TwistedThreadsFabric/listing/972991579) and all proceeds benefit SBQG.
The design and assembly team led by Melanie Dreike included Nadine Kirk, Marie Cortez, Sue Glass, and Julie Limbach Jones. Blocks were made by members of South Bay Quilters Guild and Matt Randall of Randall Quilting & Design quilted it.
Thank you to the Modern Quilt Guild for the opportunity to show “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mid-Mod World” at QuiltCon Together 2021 and at QuiltCon2022. Thank you to Ruby Star Society for sponsoring the People’s Choice Award at QuiltCon Together 2021.
