Wounded Warriors Project

Return to Community Outreach Main Page
Picture

Coordinated by Arlene Zobrist

In 2009 we began sending quilts directly to front line hospitals for wounded troops.  The wounded are transported from combat areas on converted cargo planes with minimal heat.  The handmade quilts provide warmth and comfort, show them we care, and thank them for their service.

We sent over 900 quilts to Iraq and Afghanistan, and want to thank DHL Express for shipping our quilts to the war zone free of charge.  We are currently in transition as the Afghanistan hospital closes, and we will continue to support our troops by partnering with a local group, South Bay Friends of Veterans.  This group reaches out to identify specific needs for quilts.  With their help, we will provide quilts to particular soldiers who were wounded to thank them for their service.

Thank you note received from wounded warrior:  “Thank you so much for the wonderful quilt you made.  It has kept me comfortable while I sleep, but more importantly it’s good to know we have great Americans back home thinking about us.  Thank you and God Bless!”
