Rudolf Heimrath created his colorful tapestry in 1960 showing participants wearing regional folk costumes on the way to the Song Festival.
The All-Latvian Song and Dance Festival has been held since 1873, normally every five years in outdoor Daugava Stadium.  The most recent festival took place from July 1-8, 2018, marking the 100th celebration of Latvian independence. The closing concert, in which a choir of 16,000 singers and other participants performed, and the subsequent sing-along night, was attended by more than 67,000 people.
