The Quilt Show is Coming!

I drove by the Torrance Cultural Arts Center on Sunday morning and was delighted to see the marquee announcing next weekend’s annual Quilt Show! There’s so much to see. We’d love to have you come and enjoy the show with us, including:

I want to mention the wonderful vendors who will be joining us. I’m always eager to see what new fabrics and patterns and notions they bring!

Hoffman International Tour

Seeing the Pink Sand Beach Designs purses at the Holiday dinner made with the new Hoffman fabrics reminded me of how much I enjoyed touring the Hoffman factory a few years ago. Factory tours have always fascinated me because I get to see “behind the scenes” and learn how & why a product is created the way it is. I now understand how to identify the quality fabrics, and (Hoffman folks were right) it’s easy to spot the Hoffman on the shelf!

Thinking about the factory tour further reminds me that the Traveling Quilters has a Hoffman International Tour and Quilt Shop Hopping trip scheduled for September 2011. I bring this to the attention of anyone who has not had the privilege of touring their facility, and those who would like to go again! As the Traveling Quilters’ site mentions, you will see the design and manufacturing process up-close. The day trip also includes a visit to two Orange County quilt shops.

OK. I’ve talked myself into it. I’ll contact Sue and hope you will too!

Fabric Dyeing

Dyed fabric Liz Wong.jpg

With all the recent energy and press for Claudia Gomez’ fabric dyeing classes, I was delighted to find a new site (thank you, Diane!) with a recent post on dyeing. Elizabeth at Oh, Fransson! posted photos and an overview of her latest venture with dyeing fabric on her blog in Sunshine Quilt Part One: Dyeing the Fabric. As she states, the post isn’t a tutorial, but the pictures show the steps and make it look so fun and creative! Visit her site to see the images!

Do you have photos of your hand-dyed fabric? Why not share them on our Facebook page!

Scattered Leaves in The Quilter Magazine

The Quilter Oct-Nov 2010.jpg
The October/November 2010 issue of The Quilter Magazine features a beautiful Autumn-inspired quilt by Wendy Sheppard. Wendy has numerous pictures (including close-ups) and details of the quilt on her blog, Ivory Spring. Be sure to view her post because her pictures really show the depth of her work on this project. She mentions that she used the Autumn into Winter collection from RJR Fabrics, and talks about her thread and batting choices, as well as her hand embroidery on the blocks. I think this is an issue that I need to purchase!

And what projects are you working on this Fall? Happy quilting!

Spring Fabrics to Dream About

I know. We’re barely starting into Fall and I’m already mentioning the Spring fabrics. But these are just too pretty not to share, and why not start dreaming about the possibilities?

Me and My Sister Designs has a new line called Dilly Dally created for Moda. It will be shown in Houston and hopefully our local shops will have it available next Spring! Here’s a preview of the turquoise colorway:

Dilly Dally turquoise.jpgTheir site has images of all colors and prints in the set.

Also from Me and My Sister Designs are a couple of patterns that would look so nice in their new fabric line:

  • Juliet Bag pattern – Besides the black and white model, here are photos from a recent class, showing other variations.

And Barb from Me and My Sister says Hi to all of us! (How nice!) So what other projects are you dreaming of?
